About Us

The Tehran Times (TT) is the Islamic Republic of Iran’s first English daily newspaper, which began its work in 1979 to air the voice of the Islamic Revolution. The newspaper’s general policy is based on the statement by Ayatollah Beheshti that “The Tehran Times is not the newspaper of the government; rather it is a loud voice of the Islamic Revolution and the oppressed people of the world”.

This statement is written on the exterior wall of the newspaper’s office to constantly remind the journalists of the primary goal.

Now, after the passage of these years, the Tehran Times has become a strong tree, the fruit of which is attracting readers from many countries. Every day, except Fridays, the newspaper hits newsstands. The newspaper covers domestic cultural, political, economic, social, and sports news stories as well as commentaries and foreign news.

To enrich the content, the newspaper also highlights Iran’s tourist attractions and women’s affairs.

The Tehran Times has become a reliable news source for hundreds of foreign media outlets as well as foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations in Tehran.

Since the beginning of the Iranian calendar year 1390 (March 2011) all the newspaper’s pages are printed in color.

It also has an educational function. English language students use it as a source to learn standard English. In 1996, it published an English-Persian glossary that includes words and expressions used in media. The fifth edition of the glossary is now available on the book market.

In 2002, the Tehran Times decided to establish a news agency which later came to be known as the Mehr News Agency (MNA). Now, the TT and MNA are under a single management system.
